What is Tiger Rankings?
Tiger Rankings is the in-house team ranking for Tiger Tournaments. Every team gets a Tiger Score built from its results at Tiger events, using the Colley rating method: wins help, losses hurt, and it matters who you played. It is a Tiger Tournaments tool and does not replace tournament standings.
Gold, Silver, and Bronze divisions are looked at separately. Teams are compared with the other teams in their own age group, format, and division, so a Bronze team is judged against Bronze teams, not against Gold.
- One board per age, gender, and format. U10 7v7 and U10 9v9, for example, are separate boards.
- Gold, then Silver, then Bronze. Each tier is ranked on its own, and Tiger Score orders teams inside a tier.
- Opp. average shows who a team played: the average Tiger Score of its opponents. It is about opponents, not a Gold, Silver, or Bronze grade.
- Play up, stay up. A team that moves up a division stays there until it plays down two events in a row. Then it moves to the tier it has actually been playing in.

How Tiger Score works
Results + opponent strength
Wins raise your rating; losses lower it. Every opponent’s rating contributes to the calculation, so schedule strength matters. Draws count as half a win and half a loss.
No blowout bonus
Goal margin, shutouts, and penalty-shootout wins add no rating bonus. Pool and playoff games have equal weight. Tournament placement does not add separate points.
A fresh start
Every team starts from the same neutral 50-point baseline. No history before August 2026 is included. Fewer than three eligible matches is marked provisional.
The calculation: Score = [100 + 50 × (wins − losses) + sum of opponents’ scores] ÷ (games played + 2). Teams are solved together in the combined season match network for their age and gender group. A repeated team’s eligible games from all linked events contribute to one score. Repeat opponents count once per match.
Season rank runs continuously through each age/gender group. Board chips use a team’s home division, not a single-event division. Home division is the highest Gold / Silver / Bronze the team has reached, and it carries forward past the rolling window. A team only leaves it by playing down two events in a row; it then moves to the tier it has actually been playing in. Events a team skips do not count. Gold first, then Silver, then Bronze. Within each tier, higher Tiger Score comes first, followed by higher schedule strength, team name, and team ID to resolve ties. Unknown tiers follow the named tiers. Event and tier controls never change a team’s season score, record, or rank.
Strength of schedule (Opp. average on the board) is the average Tiger Score of the opponents you played — literally who you faced each game. It is not your Gold, Silver, or Bronze label, and it does not move you between tiers. Tier still sorts the board (Gold, then Silver, then Bronze). A stacked Bronze group can post a higher Opp. average than a soft Gold or Silver group. A repeat opponent counts once per game. Connected opponents help compare teams across events. Separate match networks still have independent neutral starting points, so these combined rankings are preliminary; they are not calibrated statewide or national rankings.
Trailing administrative -c and 1–3 digit codes are removed. Matching cleaned names, age, and gender are joined provisionally across events when there is no same-event name conflict. Existing coach names stay in team names. Different names remain separate until verified; separate coach data is not included in this import.

Are U8 / U10 / U12 formats separate age groups?
U8 4v4 and U8 7v7 are separate age groups (own Gold / Silver / Bronze each). Same for U10 7v7 / U10 9v9 and U12 9v9 / U12 11v11 — formats are not mixed on one age board. Mixed-age brackets remain under their oldest listed age until each team’s age is verified.

How are records calculated?
Wins, draws, losses, and goals use the recorded match score. A penalty shootout does not turn a regulation draw into a win in these records. Canceled matches, standalone shootouts, missing scores, and unresolved opponents are held out. Tiger Score ranks the eligible results using the formula above; it does not replace official tournament standings.
Why can a Bronze team have a higher Opp. average than a Gold team?
Opp. average is strength of schedule: the average Tiger Score of the opponents you actually played. Gold, Silver, and Bronze only decide which board you sit on (Gold first, then Silver, then Bronze). They do not feed Opp. average. So a stacked Bronze group can show a higher Opp. average than a soft Gold group — that means they faced tougher opponents on average, not that Bronze outranks Gold.
Why start in August?
The 2026–27 season starts fresh after the age-group change. Each tournament’s recorded gender, age group, division, and tier are preserved. No results before August 1, 2026 carry over.
